Lions will become Tiger Cubs in a matter of months, as Marengo Elementary School 5th-graders were honored during an in-person ceremony on Tuesday, June 1.
As the seasonal temperatures rise, so too did spirits, with students and families dressing in tropical attire for a festive occasion on a day with sublime weather.
Applauded by Principal Patricia Cheadle and 5th-grade teacher Ron Aschieris, colloquially known as “Mr. A,” the students’ indefatigable push through their final year at the school was rewarded with smiles, certificates, and commendations.
With a space large enough to accommodate families for the commencement, live attendance was possible while still observing proper safety measures.
After a year of distance-learning and lots of adaptation, the Marengo students may yet face new challenges on the road ahead, but as the many signs strewn across the front lawns so proudly proclaimed, they are “making history.”
Only a block away lies the South Pasadena Middle School, where many of these now-graduates will be able to enjoy in-person learning and experience facilities like the newly-renovated former old gym, now arts building and more.
