A suspect was arrested early Tuesday morning for mail theft after a South Pasadena police officer discovered stolen mail and a fishing device at a USPS drop box.
Arrest Details
On March 25, 2025, at approximately 1:44 a.m., a South Pasadena police officer observed an individual standing near a United States Postal Service drop box in the 1100 block of Fremont Avenue. When the individual noticed the officer, they attempted to walk away. The officer then spotted opened mail on the ground near the drop box.
Discovery of Stolen Mail
After detaining the individual, officers conducted an investigation and found a mail theft fishing device with adhesive gel inside the drop box, along with additional stolen mail. The suspect was identified as 24-year-old Elvis Lizama Pena of Los Angeles.
Legal Proceedings
Lizama Pena was booked at the South Pasadena Jail and later released with a citation. The case will be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
