A powerful act of local compassion has emerged in the wake of the recent Eaton Canyon fires, thanks to the combined efforts of Tina Nguyen, founder of Jax & Bones, and Girl Scout Troop 7751 of South Pasadena.

Together, the two groups raised over $30,000 for PSHS and other local groups and prepared more than 150 animal rescue kits to support animals displaced by the fires and cared for by the Pasadena Humane Society. (details can be provided on the 30,000 but it’s listed on a GO FUND ME account)
The donation was formally presented to Pasadena Humane today in a heartfelt ceremony that celebrated both community spirit and youth leadership.
“Our goal was to show the girls how small actions can have a big impact,” said Tina Nguyen, founder of Jax & Bones. “They learned how to organize, fundraise, and care for animals—and their compassion blew me away.”

Founded in 2004, Jax & Bones is known not only for its handcrafted pet beds and toys but also for its commitment to sustainability and animal advocacy. The company, which employs over 30 people in the San Gabriel Valley, has made community engagement a cornerstone of its mission.
“We learned that even animals need our help when disasters strike,” said Isla M., age 11, a member of Troop 7751. “It felt really good to do something kind and important.”
The girls helped design the rescue kits, which included items such as blankets, food, treats, toys, and calming sprays for animals in temporary foster care.
“Working with Tina and Jax & Bones gave our girls real-world leadership experience,” said Emily Lau, Troop Leader for Troop 7751. “They were empowered to think critically, take initiative, and connect with a cause larger than themselves.”
Pasadena Humane, which has served the community for over a century, expressed deep appreciation for the grassroots effort.

“Tina and Troop 7751 remind us what community support really looks like,” said Kevin McManus, Director of Community Engagement at Pasadena Humane. “Their generosity is helping us rebuild and care for animals when they need it most.”
