The Lineage Performing Arts Center is bringing the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Next to Normal to Pasadena’s world-famous Gamble House for one weekend only, November 4th-7th. This unique production takes the book and music of Next to Normal and adds Lineage’s original choreography and movement that transports audiences deeply into the story. Audiences are invited to seat themselves on the front lawn of the historic landmark and enjoy the show as performers lean over balconies and dancers leap up grassy hills at this National Historic Landmark.

Featuring a brilliant book with daring lyrics by Brian Yorkey and powerful rock opera music by Tom Kitt, Next to Normal explores how one suburban household copes with crisis and mental illness. Lineage’s production takes on the challenge imposed by the pandemic and impressively turns restrictions into opportunities with a timely message to all affected by the pandemic. Artistic Director Hilary Thomas says of the show, “the message is more powerful than ever. This show forces us to look at mental illness and grief in all its rawness. This year has forced us to examine our own mental health and grief, testing so many of us in tremendous ways.”

Audiences will join Lineage at the lawn of the Gamble House for this special performance of Next to Normal as it takes place on the facade and grounds of the famed Craftsman home. As Los Angeles continues to heal from the pandemic, Lineage hopes to honor and respect the struggles faced by the community over the last year and a half, and to shed light on the hopes for a brighter future for Pasadena and the arts community.
