The transformation of Mission Street into a car-free pedestrian and cyclist zone during Mission at Twilight was an overwhelming success—one that deserves to be recognized, celebrated, and most importantly, repeated.
As small business owners in South Pasadena, we had the privilege of experiencing the immediate and positive impact this event had on our local economy and the spirit of our community. Foot traffic surged, families explored the open streets safely, and residents engaged with one another in a way that rarely happens outside of planned gatherings. We welcomed a wave of first-time customers who told us they felt more inclined to explore because they weren’t worried about traffic or parking.
Beyond the sales boost, Mission at Twilight offered something far more valuable: it reminded us of South Pasadena’s unique charm and potential as a walkable, vibrant city. These are the kinds of events that build meaningful community connections and create lasting memories for residents and visitors alike.
We urge the City Council to consider making this event a monthly fixture in the city’s calendar. It is a low-cost, high-impact way to support small businesses, promote sustainability, and enhance the overall quality of life in South Pasadena.
