Los Angeles County is introducing a new tool to speed up the rebuilding process for homeowners impacted by the Eaton Fire and Palisades Fire. Through a partnership with Archistar, the County has launched the eCheck AI Pilot, an automated review system that uses artificial intelligence to check building plans for compliance with local zoning regulations.

Who Can Join the Pilot

Residents with properties in single-family (R-1) zones within the unincorporated communities of Altadena and Sunset Mesa are eligible to join as Early Adopters. The program is specifically designed for those whose single-family homes were damaged or destroyed in the aforementioned fires.

How the AI-Powered Review Works

To participate, homeowners must:

  • Visit echeck.lacounty.gov
  • Create a free account
  • Search for their property address
  • Upload architectural drawings in PDF format
  • Choose between Like-for-Like or Non-Like-for-Like rebuild projects

During the pilot phase, review results may take up to 10 business days, though faster processing is possible. Once complete, the platform provides a downloadable report that can be submitted with the County Disaster Recovery Permit – Rebuild Project application.

A Streamlined Future for Post-Disaster Rebuilding

The eCheck AI Pilot aims to simplify and accelerate the permitting process for those recovering from disaster-related home loss. By harnessing artificial intelligence, LA County and Archistar are setting the stage for more efficient, accurate, and accessible planning reviews, offering affected residents a quicker path to rebuilding.
