
In response to catastrophic flooding in central Texas, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) has activated Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) canine teams for a 14-day deployment to assist with search and recovery efforts.
Deployment Set for July 9 from LAX
Departing Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at 9:22 a.m. via American Airlines Flight 6497 (Terminal 5) from Los Angeles International Airport, the LACoFD team includes:
- Fire Captain Celina Serrano and K9 Prentiss
- Fire Fighter Paramedic Jonathan Munguia and K9 Clifford
- Search Team Manager Fire Captain Michael Devine
The highly trained canine teams will support local agencies in Texas as they continue to search for victims and assess the aftermath of the widespread flooding.
Media Coverage Available During Departure
Members of the media are invited to capture B-roll footage and photos beginning at 6:15 a.m. at LAX as the team arrives, checks in, and clears TSA PreCheck®. If time permits, team members may offer brief interviews before departure.
