South Pasadena drivers who regularly use the 110 freeway will need to adjust their routes next week. Caltrans has announced a series of daytime ramp closures at Avenue 60 as crews continue work on a major bridge upgrade project.
Because this construction directly impacts a key traffic artery for our area, commuters are encouraged to plan ahead and allow for extra travel time.
Upcoming Closure Schedule
The daytime closures are scheduled for the week of September 8:

Avenue 60 On-Ramp: The on-ramp to the northbound 110 freeway will be closed daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., running from Tuesday, Sept. 8, through Friday, Sept. 11.

Avenue 60 Off-Ramp: The northbound 110 freeway off-ramp at Avenue 60 remains fully closed. This long-term closure began earlier this year on Jan. 23. Northbound drivers should continue to use the Marmion Way / Avenue 64 or Via Marisol exits as alternatives.
What to Expect on the Road
To ensure the safety of both workers and drivers, the posted speed limit will be reduced by 10 mph within the construction zone. Caltrans will place advance warning signs to alert motorists of the closures and the speed reductions.
About the Project
The work at Avenue 60 is part of a larger $15.8 million infrastructure project by Caltrans to upgrade existing bridge rails to current safety standards and extend the durability and longevity of the local overpass. As part of this overhaul, crews will also be updating signage, streetlights, and traffic signals around the bridge. The entire regional project is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2027.
