FROZEN Jr. to Premiere at Young Stars Theatre in South Pasadena

Local youth theatre company first in the Southland to premiere Frozen Jr | Produced by Young Stars Theatre at Fremont Centre Theatre in South Pasadena, California

Brrrrrr! May is going to be cold in South Pas! In fact, it’s going to be “Frozen” – at least at Young Stars Theatre!

“When we saw Frozen Jr was available, we applied for the rights immediately,” says YST Director Jack J. Bennett. “The usual approval process with a Jr. show is very quick, day or two at most for approval, sometimes the same day. For this one, Disney is apparently playing it a little differently. We waited… and we waited… and we waited. Every morning for almost a month, one of the first things I did was go to my computer, sign in to our account, and see the words ‘In Process’. We were already approved for another show for the same time slot, but we wanted so badly to be one of the first to do this show.”

Jack messaged and called their MTI account rep in NY so much, he actually sent her flowers to apologize for bugging her! The waiting finally paid off, and YST will be one of the first to produce this newly available show, possibly the Southern California premiere!  “I don’t know that for a fact,” says Bennett, “but I do know that we applied right away and are already auditioning. Our production goes up in May, so I think it will be the SoCal premiere.”

Although they have already had two sessions of live auditions, there is still one session left on Saturday, March 9th from 12pm to 2pm, and there’s even a video audition option available if you can’t make the audition in person. To get all the audition info and to register, you can go to www.YoungStarsTheatre.org/auditions

Frozen JR. is based on the 2018 Broadway musical which is in turn based on the 2013 Disney animated film. The musical expands upon the emotional relationship and journey between Princesses Anna and Elsa. When faced with danger, the two discover their hidden potential and the powerful bond of sisterhood.  All of the songs from the movie are there, including 5 new songs written for the Broadway musical

“Our regular kids are excited, we’re excited to do this brand new show, and we’re getting a great response from kids who have never auditioned for us before.”

YST’s current show, Shrek Jr. continues for three more weekends, closing March 24th. For showtimes and ticketing, as well as more info about YST, you can go to www.YoungStarsTheatre.org
