10 books are being auctioned by the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library. Bids are being accepted at the Library until 1 p.m. on July 31.
Among the vintage and special books being auctioned are “Stamps & Stamps: Style and Sensibility.” This new oversized book showcases the work of South Pasadena architect Odom Stamps and designer Kate Stamps, his wife. Pierson says on the accompanying book description card that the couple has built their style “on an aesthetic foundation rooted in the past but with a modern lightness and wit.” The author is Diane Dorrans Saeks and photographs are by Kate Stamps.
Another book is a rare 1999 photographic history of Chavez Ravine by Don Normark. This tells the story of the rural community and its residents who were uprooted to build Dodger Stadium. Pierson describes “CHAVEZ RAVINE. 1949 A Los Angeles Story” as “a beautiful and haunting story” with “many incredible black and white photographs.”
