FALL ARTS CRAWL 2017

It’s the Fall Celebration of the Arts in South Pasadena Saturday October 21

Artists and Businesses team up to celebrate the fall season with another fun and family friendly “Neighborhood Night-on-the-Town” on Saturday, October 21, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and produced by SPACE, the South Pasadena Arts Crawl welcomes people of all ages to this free event which offers gallery openings, art activities, live music, open houses, food and drink specials, and sales throughout the business district. Mission Street, and adjacent blocks, will be abuzz with festivities for the event.

Fall themed family activities include “Urban Scarecrows”, a free interactive art activity at the South Pasadena City Hall courtyard, where event-goers can create their own mini-scarecrows. At Dual Crossroads you can sign up for a Mommy and Me Halloween craft class, Hotbox Vintage offers pumpkin carving, and The Munch Company will do face painting and an art project.

In conjunction with the Arts Crawl, South Pasadena Preservation Foundation and The D.U.D.E.S. present South Pasadena’s OKTOBERFEST! The D.U.D.E.S. annual tradition gets a bigger venue featuring a beer garden serving craft beers, brats, pretzels, Jones Coffee and kid-friendly food & activities at the South Pasadena Historical Museum Grounds. It is a fundraiser for S.P.P.F. Museum Remodeling Campaign and our PTA via The DUDES.  OKTOBERFEST tickets are on pre-sale now; Entry is FREE and tickets are for food and beer; everything is 2 tickets! So head on over to the museum for live music, Oktoberfest savvy fare, libations, to be merry, and support local non-profits!

The Artisans’ Corner will be on both sides of Meridian in front of the Gold Line. Stroll near the Walking Man to shop for gifts and unique items including art, pillows, accessories, jewelry and more. Earlier in the day Mission Wines offers a pre-crawl, Oktoberfest-themed beer tasting from 1-5pm.

Local businesses get into the groove with several live performances; On the blacktop directly behind The Dinosaur Farm, Mission Street Music Club, Kelly Kidd and Redd Carter will be performing a set starting at 8pm sharp! Bungalow Bill will present a Jumpin’ Jam in the Good Citizen Media from 6-9pm and Duncan Taylor is hosting the lineup of Mike Talega, Sierra and the Radicals and The Black Heartthrobs. The South Pasadena Music Center and Conservatory hosts a live music marathon while the Pascale Institute will have an upright piano on the sidewalk and performances during the whole event. Kaldi will present tunes by Annika Saige and Tisa Adamson and Arroyo Outdoor is hoting live music al fresco on its patio.

Videotheque presents an outdoor screening of the eerie classic “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” while several venues, including the South Pasadena Library, SPARC, Sugar Mynt Gallery, the Laurie Hendricks Gallery, Old Focals, and more, present art shows by local artists. De Milo Design Studio & Letterpress invites Crawlers to make their own print on the studio’s antique press while Vave Studios is offering a flower crown bar from 5-7pm. Retreat Lifestye will host jewelry designer Amanda K. Lockrow and singer/songwriter Jason Mankowski.

Art exhibits include the opening of Colin Glasgow’s show “Simularca” at the SPARC gallery inside the Chamber of Commerce, local artist, Jimi Martinez has a show at South Pasadena Library, sculptor Gary Chapman will exhibit work at Old Focals, and painters Pati Bruce and Sherry Schmidt will present “City Views” at the Laurie Hendricks Gallery.

Mission Street Yoga is presenting art and handmade jewelry by Anne McElroy and Kyle Ingram while the Maya Salon is hosting a jewelry designer, Peltier Home is offering a sale on all artwork in their showroom and Kidd’s Jewelry Heist will offer their $5 spooktacular bracelet making and artist Sharon Romero will sell her Dream Boxes. Camille de Pedrini and Rue de Mimo have 15% off non-sale items with Marz offering the same along with Cake Girl baked goods. Yum! The Dinosaur Farm is having a storewide sale and face-painting.

Joining the fall fun, restaurants will be offering food and drink specials, and food trucks deliver several on-the-go eating options.

To honor the South Pasadena family of Aramazd (Piqui) Andressian Jr., Rosebuds and Rosestuds and SPACE will donate a portion of its proceeds toward memorials for the young boy who was killed last spring.

Patrons can park in the Mission/Meridian Parking lot (north of Mission Street, on Meridian), and walk to the more than 25 participating shops and boutiques. The Metro Gold Line South Pasadena Station will put you right in the heart of the event.

The quarterly Arts Crawls are presented by the South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, and produced by SPACE, to provide a showcase for artists and musicians and to highlight the city’s unique business district.
