Artists and Businesses team up to celebrate the fall season with another fun and family friendly “Neighborhood Night-on-the-Town” on Saturday, October 21, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and produced by SPACE, the South Pasadena Arts Crawl welcomes people of all ages to this free event which offers gallery openings, art activities, live music, open houses, food and drink specials, and sales throughout the business district. Mission Street, and adjacent blocks, will be abuzz with festivities for the event.
Fall themed family activities include “Urban Scarecrows”, a free interactive art activity at the South Pasadena City Hall courtyard, where event-goers can create their own mini-scarecrows. At Dual Crossroads you can sign up for a Mommy and Me Halloween craft class, Hotbox Vintage offers pumpkin carving, The Munch Company will do face painting and an art project, and Retreat will have a “live” scarecrow.
In conjunction with the Arts Crawl, South Pasadena Preservation Foundation and The D.U.D.E.S. present South Pasadena’s OKTOBERFEST! The D.U.D.E.S. annual tradition gets a bigger venue featuring a beer garden serving craft beers, brats, pretzels, Jones Coffee and kid-friendly food & activities at the South Pasadena Historical Museum Grounds. It is a fundraiser for S.P.P.F. Museum Remodeling Campaign and our PTA’s via The DUDES. OKTOBERFEST tickets are on pre-sale now; your entrance donation gains you access to live music, Oktoberfest savvy fare, libations, be merry, and support local non-profits!
The Artisans’ Corner will be on both sides of Meridian in front of the Gold Line. Stroll near the Walking Man to shop for gifts and unique items including art, pillows, accessories, jewelry and more. Earlier in the day Mission Wines offers a pre-crawl, Oktoberfest-themed beer tasting from 1-5pm.
Local businesses get into the groove with performances by Mission Street Music Club, Kelly Kidd, Bill Burnett, Jackson Mankowski, and more. The South Pasadena Music Center and Conservatory hosts a live music marathon while the Pascale Institute will have an upright piano on the sidewalk and performances during the whole event.
Videotheque presents an outdoor screening of the eerie classic “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” while several venues, including the South Pasadena Library, SPARC, Sugar Mynt Gallery, the Laurie Hendricks Gallery, Old Focals, and more, present art shows by local artists. Joining the fall fun, restaurants will be offering food and drink specials, and food trucks deliver several on-the-go eating options.
To honor the South Pasadena family of Aramazd (Piqui) Andressian Jr., Rosebuds and Rosestuds and SPACE will donate a portion of its proceeds toward memorials for the young boy who was killed last spring.
Patrons can park in the Mission/Meridian Parking lot (north of Mission Street, on Meridian), and walk to the more than 25 participating shops and boutiques. The Metro Gold Line South Pasadena Station will put you right in the heart of the event.
The quarterly Arts Crawls are presented by the South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, and produced by SPACE, to provide a showcase for artists and musicians and to highlight the city’s unique business district.
