A once popular restaurant featuring a 14-day dry aged USDA prime rib-eye steak cooked to perfection, to go along with any number of tasty side dishes, including Caesar salad and oysters on a half shell, has closed its doors.

Crossings, a high-end eatery across from South Pasadena’s Gold Line Station, was in business for about five years before management left a note on the door this month at 1010 Mission Street explaining it was no longer in business.

Under gold block lettering the message reads: “To Our Loyal Customers, Crossings Restaurant is now closed. We want to thank all of you for your support over the last 5 years. It has been our pleasure to help you celebrate all your life’s milestones. The restaurant has been sold. Look for a new venture opening in the late spring. With Gratitude, Patrick and Stephanie Kirchen, owners.”

There’s no indication at this time what business will be opening at the location.

Kirchen leaves with vast experience working for restaurants in high management roles with Le Grand Orange, the Arroyo Chop House, both in Pasadena, and Nick & Stef’s Steakhouse and Market Café in Los Angeles.

Yelp gave Crossing four out of five stars with 374 reviews.

Eunice C. gave it five stars after a visit last Octobers, writing: “Hidden gem in south pasadena! Yes salads are on the smallish side but the appetizers & entrees are the bombs. The steaks! Love the Crossings rubs on their steaks. Recently I was at a dinner party where friend reserved tomahawk steak with king crab legs! O. M. G. Surf n turf at its finest! Meat quality is comparable to those well-known megas. Their bars are also top notch. Not many bars could make a perfect vesper. They also have barreled aged cocktails. Highly recommended.”

In July 2018, Courtney B of Los Angeles, giving Crossings a 5-star rating, contributed the following on Yelp: “Patrick provided us with INCREDIBLE service this evening. He was knowledgeable about everything on the menu, and was able to recommend a wine pairing for every entree (and dessert!) He was genuinely friendly from beginning to end, accommodating, and he made sure that we never needed to ask for a waiter. Absolutely incredible service; I can’t say it enough. Tonight I enjoyed the Gem Salad (their take on a Caesar salad), the Al Pastor, and for desert the Nutella Pot de Creme. I had a glass of cab with dinner, although they don’t offer very many “by the glass” options, which is genuinely my only complaint about this establishment. The al pastor was delicious, it is cooked sous vide for about 10 hours so it was very tender; and it’s served with compressed pineapple to balance the flavor. Patrick was the true star of the evening, and made the entire meal a very enjoyable experience. Thanks Patrick!”
