Dear Parents, Faculty and Staff,

Thinking back to the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year, I recall students and teachers excitedly preparing for and viewing the solar eclipse as well as studying the science behind obscuring a light form. The year may have begun with a few moments of partial darkness, but our students proceeded to shine brightly in many diverse endeavors.

We look to our school leaders, faculty and staff to help prepare students for the future, and I am always amazed by the talents of students who win awards at the local, state and national levels. The awards recognize future generations of filmmakers, artists, scientists, mathematicians, writers, entrepreneurs, mediators, athletes and more. Thank you to the employees who are retiring this year and best of luck with your future paths.

Within our community, we experienced overwhelming support for the Yes on S local parcel tax campaign, whichcontinues to support the school libraries, counseling services and enrich instruction in STEM, art, music, and drama. Additionally, our campuses are growing and changing due to the Measure SP bond passed last year. These new facilities will grow with us over the next several years and give our students greater opportunities for success.

Our District also is bolstered by tremendous support from SPEF, the PTAs and booster clubs that provide top-notch programs and services for our students. Parents are key contributors within these groups – thank you to everyone involved.

Shining most brightly at the end of this school year is the SPHS Class of 2018 as they are moving on to college, careers and other ventures. Congratulations on a job well done – we are proud of you and your contributions to our community.

At South Pasadena Unified School District, we are celebrating the brightness of this school year and the light toward the future. We couldn’t do it without you.

All the best,

Geoff Yantz, Superintendent
