Celestial Opera singers will entertain and light refreshments will be served to celebrate the exciting news of new management for this thriving arts organization which has been providing the community with beautiful music rendered with excellence by its own residents for twenty-one successful seasons!
Founded in 1998 by opera singer and voice teacher Judith Townsend, Celestial Opera is a non-profit arts and educational organization. Youth and adults of all singing levels are welcomed from the community. High School students can earn community service credit towards graduation while getting experience in various areas of production such as tickets, concessions, stage crew or by singing in the chorus. Celestial Opera’s training program includes adult members from all walks of life from the community (doctors, lawyers, nurses, accountants, etc.) who perform alongside apprentice singers who are gaining role experience and building resumés, emerging professional singers and long-time professionals. Celestial Opera’s model for learning by example is unique among its sister regional opera companies in the greater Los Angeles area.
A stellar example of the fruits of Celestial Opera’s program is Kiernan O’Neal, who as a South Pasadena High School student, sang in both Celestial Opera’s 2016 Gala and its 2017 production of “Marriage of Figaro,” in which he sang a supporting role. He was inspired to further pursue his vocal education and is now a freshman at NYU with a full scholarship.
As the leading light of this organization, Judith Townsend looks forward to announcing new management at the April 6th Gala which will bring South Pasadena’s own opera company forward for many years to come!
