Children of City of South Pasadena employees were given a glimpse of the working world Thursday as part of the national Bring Your Child to Work Day.
The event kicked off at 9 a.m. inside the South Pasadena Council Chambers as the kids met with members of the council. At 9:30 a.m., parents showed their children where they work. Between 10 and 11 a.m., the kids toured both the fire and police departments.
Firefighter/paramedic Joseph Monticone gave kids and parents a grand tour of the facility. Tykes got a chance to take the driver’s seat of Engine 81 at the fire station, handle a real-live fire hose, and watch firefighters slide down the fire pole donning their new firefighter hats.

Afterwards, families travelled next door to the police department to meet Justice the Police Dog, sit in a squad car and motorcycle and have a Q & A with Captain Brian Solinsky about what makes a police station function.
Take Your Child to Work Day wrapped up with a city-sponsored lunch inside the Council Chambers featuring pizza from Tomato Pie on Mission Street in South Pasadena.
National Take Your Kids to Work Day is recognized on the fourth Thursday in April each year. The annual event is an educational program where parents take their children to work with them for one day.
According to Forbes, more than 37 million Americans at more than 3.5 million workplaces in the United States take part in the event.
Launched 26 years by the Ms. Foundation as Take Your Daughters to Work Day, the event has been retooled today as Bring Your Child to Work Day, designed for girls and boys ages 8 to 18 to learn about their parent’s workplace, then take what they learned back to school the next day.
