South Pasadena High will play Fillmore in a first round CIF-Southern Section Division 13 playoff game at 7:30 p.m. Friday on the road.

The Tigers will be making the 59 mile trip to play the 7-1 Flashes after qualifying as an at-large berth team, finishing the regular season with a 7-3 mark and two straight wins to go 2-2 in Rio Hondo League play.

“We’re in the playoffs and that was one of our goals going into the season,” said Tigers, coach Jeff Chi. “We’ll be ready to go.”

Alhambra, a team South Pasadena lost to earlier in the season, is ranked No. 1 in the division while the Tigers are No. 9. “We played pretty well against Alhambra, so I feel we can play against anyone in our division. We’ll see. We’re expecting a tough game against Fillmore. It should be a good one.”

Monrovia and San Marino automatically qualified for the postseason by finishing first and second, respectively, in the Rio Hondo League.

South Pasadena is coming off a 40-10 win over visiting La Cañada last Friday, coming back from a 10-point deficit to score 40 unanswered points.
