A large brush fire broke out Friday night at about 9:15pm near South Pasadena. Multiple fire department helicopters, including water dropping units, are engaged fighting the blaze.

Smoke was reported to 911 near Arroyo Seco Park on Marmion Way in South Pasadena at about 9:00pm Friday night.

Flames could be seen over the trees and ridge between the 110 freeway exit and South Pasadena.

At least thirty Fire Department units have been dispatched.  The blaze in still in progress, updates to follow.

UPDATE: SAT. 7-2-22 1:00AM | Fire Contained – No Injuries Reported

The nearly 5 acre brush fire threatened nearby neighborhoods in Highland Park, adjacent to South Pasadena, before firefighters contained the blaze about 11:30PM Friday.

Reports say the brush fire was on the slope immediately above 110 Freeway near the Avenue 60 & Marmion Way exits.  Flames could be seen above the treelined ridge from South Pasadena as ash rained down into the surrounding neighborhoods.

Firefighters have established containment lines and continue to work on hot spots, according to to the LAFD.

The Gold Line was halted at South Pasadena Station, but has since restarted service, according to METRO.
