Car accident involving four cars by Orange Grove Park sends one to hospital

An accident involving four cars occurred Wednesday night, at approximately 6:15 p.m. at the intersection of El Centro Street and Orange Grove Avenue in South Pasadena.

According to Officer Chris Perez of the South Pasadena Police Department, a traffic accident happened when, “a young female pulled out of a parking space, causing another driver to be side-swiped and collide with three other cars.”

The car in motion was a black BMW compact SUV. Bystanders reported to SPPD officers on the scene that the BMW “was going no faster than 15-20 mph down El Centro when the driver was distracted and then grazed a white sedan pulling out on the south side of El Centro…”

An owner of one of the parked cars said that she and her family were at Orange Grove Park and heard a loud bang, then they went to check out what had happened. They did not witness the accident itself, only the aftermath.

The other two cars involved in the accident were parked and not occupied.

The driver of the BMW, a woman in her mid 50’s, sustained injuries as a result from the collision and was taken away in an ambulance. She was conscious, and reported to be in stable condition at the time.

No other injuries were reported at the time. A total of four vehicles were damaged in the accident.
