With a narrow 2-1 victory over East Alhambra, South Pasadena Little League’s 9-11 All Star baseball team recently won the District 18 championship.
It marked the second straight year that the 9-11 year-old squad walked off with the title.
The Tigers were represented by players from every elementary school in South Pasadena and players in both the major and national leagues in South Pasadena Little League.
Marengo Elementary School’s Hanson Chan had a solid outing, going six innings, allowing four hits, one run and striking out nine while not allowing a walk in the victory.
Quinn Imasaki, Phil Malatesta and Samuel Wingard all had key hits in the contest for South Pasadena. Over the course of the District Tournament South Pasadena had 16 hits and 16 runs while giving up only 11 hits and recording 30 strike outs.
The Tigers now move on to the Little League Sectional Tournament at Holmer Briggs Park in Ontario to face Upland Foothill Little League at 5:15 on Saturday, July 13. Upland Foothill and South Pasadena Little League return to tourney action this year, joining newcomers Claremont and La Puente.
