
On March 25, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m., South Pasadena Police Department (SPPD) officers responded to a welfare check in the 1000 block of Orange Grove Avenue after reports of a man screaming for help. Upon arrival, officers found the individual under the influence of narcotics and called paramedics for medical assistance.
While officers were on scene, the Communications Center received a separate report of gunshots heard in the 1000 block of Adelaine Avenue, with a male suspect seen running toward Orange Grove Avenue. Officers immediately searched the area but found no victims. However, they recovered a black handgun in a backyard and found evidence confirming a shooting had occurred.
Investigation and Arrest
SPPD detectives launched an investigation, obtaining a search warrant for a residence on Adelaine Avenue, where they recovered four additional firearms.
Through further investigation, officers identified the man from the welfare check as the shooting suspect—53-year-old Peter Piriyakul of South Pasadena. After receiving medical treatment, Piriyakul was arrested and booked on the following charges:
- Penal Code 246 – Shooting at an Inhabited Dwelling
- Penal Code 29800(a)(1) – Felon in Possession of a Firearm
He was transported to the Los Angeles County Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment.
