A Noise Within continues a tradition of bringing us A Christmas Carol like no other. Innovative in every aspect of the production from the lush set design and the sumptuous, nature based costumes to the use of music and singing, this show offers a feast for the senses.
From the start, with the use of a narrator reading from the Dickens book, the audience senses that they will be taken on a journey and indeed, one is completely swept up by Scrooge’s long night of ghosts from the past, present and future. Taking on the role of the narrator is an elegant and dynamic Frederick Stuart and Geoff Elliott gives a virtuoso performance as Ebenezer Scrooge. His giddiness upon realizing he’s survived the night is infectious. Elliott has wonderful chemistry with Rafael Goldstein as Scrooge’s nephew and the two create a touching and meaningful reunion.
Some of the most whimsical moments come from Deborah Strang’s scenes as the frothy, angelic ghost of Christmas past while the entire Cratchit family creates one of the most poignant scenes when we see a future without Tiny Tim. There really is no better way to celebrate the season than with an exquisite retelling of A Christmas Carol and this one is simply not to be missed.
A Christmas Carol is now on stage through Dec. 23 at A Noise Within located at on the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Sierra Madre Villa Avenue at 3352 East Foothill Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91107.
