Bargain hunters, thrifters, collectors, holiday shoppers and vintage enthusiasts will find a wide variety of valuable treasures at a yard sale Nov. 8-9 organized by the South Pasadena Tournament of Roses Committee. By shopping at the sale, community members can save money and at the same time support the creation of the 2025 South Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade float, “Seas the Day.”

The two-day sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, and Saturday, Nov. 9, at the War Memorial Building, 435 Fair Oaks Ave. Collectibles, tools, electronics, books, antiques, unique items for gift giving, holiday decorations, furniture, shoes and clothing, kitchenware and equipment, jewelry, toys and games and many other unique items can be found at the sale — all at a good price.

Longtime committee members Steve Fillingham and Janet Benjamin are organizing the event — the second this year, to raise needed funds. Fillingham is also chair of the float construction team and Benjamin is decoration chair.

“Every dollar goes into building and decorating the float that rides down Colorado Boulevard Jan. 1,” Fillingham said. “There’s no administration fee, and all money goes directly to the float.” Expenses total more than $100,000 to pay for flowers, steel and supplies, he said. All labor is volunteer, he added.

Fillingham reminds readers that the float is currently being built and decorated onsite at the War Memorial Building parking lot.

Everything sold at the sale is donated by the public. “Community members and float supporters are encouraged to clean out their closets and garages for a good cause,” said Benjamin.

Items for the sale can be dropped off at the main door of the War Memorial Building from 4 to 8 p.m. Nov. 5-7. Tax-deductible receipts are available. A pick-up service is available for large items (contact Steve Fillingham at [email protected]). No mattresses, entertainment centers or large appliances can be accepted.

Volunteers are also needed before, during and after the sale. Community service credit is available. Contact Fillingham at the email above to sign up.
