The South Pasadena Tournament of Roses Committee will host a two-day community yard sale on Friday, May 9, and Saturday, May 10, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the War Memorial Building to raise funds for the city’s entry in the 2026 Rose Parade.
Proceeds from the event will go directly toward the construction and decoration of South Pasadena’s all-volunteer-built float, a long-standing tradition featured each New Year’s Day in Pasadena’s world-famous parade. With costs exceeding $150,000 for flowers, steel, and materials, the committee relies on community support to fund the float. Notably, all labor is donated, and no administrative fees are deducted from the total raised.
Donations Accepted Beginning May 6
Community members are encouraged to donate gently used household items starting Tuesday, May 6 at the War Memorial Building. Donations can be dropped off on the following dates and times:
- Tuesday, May 6 (5–8 p.m.) – Basement door
- Wednesday, May 7 (4–8 p.m.) – Main entrance
- Thursday, May 8 (4–8 p.m.) – Main entrance
Note: Mattresses, entertainment centers, and large appliances will not be accepted. Tax-deductible donation receipts are available upon request. For large item pick-up, contact Steve Fillingham at [email protected].

A Treasure Hunt With a Purpose
The sale will include a wide selection of items such as furniture, collectibles, books, tools, clothing, electronics, kitchenware, holiday decorations, and more — all at affordable prices and donated by local residents.
The annual sale is organized by longtime volunteers Steve Fillingham and Janet Benjamin and draws hundreds of shoppers, including vintage collectors and bargain hunters.
“Every dollar goes into building and decorating the float,” said Fillingham. “It’s a true community effort, powered by volunteers and generous donors.”
