Los Angeles audiences can experience a thought-provoking retelling of the epic poem Beowulf as FEAST. makes its West Coast premiere. Presented by Leonix Movement Theatre in association with Immersive Art Collective, this immersive solo play runs March 8 – April 6, 2025, at The Count’s Den in Downtown Los Angeles.

Written by playwright and comedian Megan Gogerty, FEAST. reimagines Beowulf from a fresh perspective. While the original myth celebrates the heroic slaying of Grendel, this play shifts the focus to Grendel’s mother, who hosts a dinner party to demand justice for her son’s murder. What follows is an intense exploration of power, revenge, and societal injustice, blending fantasy with contemporary themes of climate change, income inequality, and authoritarianism.

Directed by Laura Covelli, this one-woman show stars Erin Schlabach, whose captivating performance as Grendel’s mother offers a mix of dark humor, philosophical musings, and biting social commentary. The audience is invited to dine alongside her, with each ticket including a pre-performance feast of charcuterie, small bites, and themed drinks.

The play challenges traditional narratives, reframing Beowulf as a colonial oppressor rather than a noble warrior. “The archetype of a hero depends on who is telling the story,” says director Laura Covelli. FEAST. encourages audiences to consider the untold perspectives of history’s so-called villains, making it a must-see for those who appreciate bold, innovative theatre.

The production boasts a talented creative team, including:

  • Producers: Erin Schlabach & Laura Covelli
  • Creative Consultant: Meredyth Hunt
  • Props Designer: Rachel Adams
