The United States Postal Service (USPS) will commemorate 250 years of continuous service with the release of special Forever stamps and a new prestige booklet on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at noon ET, at USPS headquarters, 475 L’Enfant Plaza SW, Washington, D.C.. The first-day-of-issue event is free and open to the public, with attendees encouraged to RSVP at usps.com/usps250years.

“250 Years of Delivering” Forever Stamps Tell a Year-Long Story

The new “250 Years of Delivering” Forever stamps are part of a pane of 20 illustrated stamps showing a mail carrier’s journey through four seasons in a vibrant American town. Designed by Chris Ware in collaboration with USPS art director Antonio Alcalá, the stamps tell a sequential story, from top-left to bottom-right, offering a bird’s-eye view of daily mail service and community life.

Prestige Booklet Features Benjamin Franklin and Stamp Program History

In addition to the stamp pane, USPS is releasing a 32-page prestige booklet titled “Putting a Stamp on the American Experience.” The booklet features highlights from USPS’s most popular stamp series and includes two self-adhesive sheets of an exclusive new Forever stamp—a modern reimagining of the classic 5-cent Benjamin Franklin stamp from 1847.

Franklin, the first postmaster general appointed by the Second Continental Congress in 1775, has been featured on more than 100 U.S. stamps over the years. As a Founding Father, scientist, and printer, Franklin understood the unifying power of the postal system and remains a symbolic figure in USPS history.

The booklet was designed by Ethel Kessler, a longtime USPS art director, and is available exclusively through:

A Legacy of Service and Innovation

Founded in 1775, the U.S. Postal Service was vital to the formation of the United States and is one of the few federal agencies explicitly mentioned in the U.S. Constitution. Today, USPS serves nearly 169 million addresses and delivers 44 percent of the world’s mail, continuing its mission to connect people and communities across the nation.

“In snow, rain, heat and gloom of night,” the postal service remains a pillar of communication, commerce, and civic engagement.
