Junior Justin Huff was named starting QB this week as Sidney Luna-Long, somewhat hindered by a thumb injury, stepped into his familiar role of wide and slot receiver which turned out to be the magic sauce with Huff passing for a staggering four touchdowns in a 55-6 rout against Riverside Prep.

The game got off to a strong start with a 27 yard touchdown pass from Huff to Luna-Long in the endzone on the first posession. Minutes later Huff connected once again with a Luna-Long dive into the endzone giving the Tigers an early 13-0 lead when the extra point was no good.

Huff continued firing off bullet passes in the second quarter culminating in a 32 yard pass to Danny Rios resulting in another Tiger touchdown for a 20-0 lead. The Knights’ QB, Domenick Woods, connected for several gains throughout the game but the Knights never recovered from the Tigers effective Offense. Defensive Back, Thomas Avila, caught an interception in the Knights endzone for a touchback giving Tigers the ball at their own 20 yard line. With less than 3 minutes left in the half, runningback, Jackson Totleben made a dramatic 23 yard run into the endzone taking the Tigers to a 27-0 score.

Tigers began the 2nd half with a deferred kick-off to the Silver Knights. First to score in the third quarter was Senior fullback, Gavin Chi, with a 3 yard touchdown run. Chi was a heat seeking missile throughout the game, rushing 67 yards on 14 carries. With the score at 41-0, Silver Knights finally put together a touchdown on a 9 yard run late in the third quarter.

“We’ve been working towards having a balanced offense, where we can throw and run the ball and I think our team did a good job of doing both tonight,” said Coach Chi after the game, “Sydney played receiver and had a fabulous night at catching and running. He brought a spark to our offense that we needed in our passing game. It was nice to see the touchdowns were spread; it shows that multiple players on our team are capable and are contributing to our offense to be more successful and balanced. I’m proud of these guys for coming through tonight.”

Sidney Luna-Long said, “I feel good. The team came out, we all played well, got the win. I want to thank the O-line and Justin Huff. He’s got a great arm; he was able to spread the ball around because he had time tonight.”

Tigers advance 3-1 on the season and will take on the Moors next Friday at Alhambra.
