As middle school students might say… THE FOLLIES TOTALLY SLAYED! The South Pasadena Middle School community came out in force on Saturday March 9th to support this wonderfully silly, long-standing tradition in its 18th year. The Follies – formerly Father’s Follies – is a hilarious amateur variety show fundraiser produced and performed by the SPMS PTA and parent and staff volunteers. All funds raised support the wellness center and mental health programs at SPMS.
According to SPMS PTSA, over 350 people bought tickets and packed into the SPMS theater and over $6000 was raised. The lineup of acts included a hilarious SNL-inspired Weekend Update (staring Assistant Principal Stephen Lewis and Drama Teacher Schuyler Mastain); talented mom and dad musicians singing their best covers and parodies; a game show and other comedy skits featuring teachers and parents; video commercials produced by SPMS Video Production students; and dancing dads! Even the wild parrots of South Pasadena (and one errant peacock) popped in to heckle the show host. It was a magical night celebrating creativity, comedy, music, and more.
SPMS parents Cristen Zeisler, Follies Committee Chair and Show Producer, and Brian Rochlin, Follies Host and Show Director, were extended a special thank you that evening, and the SPMS PTA would also like to extend a STANDING OVATION to our sponsors and everyone who purchased tickets and donated, and the staff and teachers at SPMS who donated their time and talents to the cause.
