South Pasadena Police Report

A 34-year-old North Hollywood man was arrested after allegedly attempting to use counterfeit money at two restaurants along Fair Oaks Avenue and fleeing from police.

Suspect Identified as Lamar Peton

At approximately 4:13 p.m., the South Pasadena Police Department received a report from a local restaurant in the 700 block of Fair Oaks Avenue. Staff alleged that the suspect had tried to pay with a counterfeit $100 bill before leaving and entering another nearby establishment.

Responding officers located the suspect, identified as Lamar Peton, and attempted to make contact. Peton immediately fled on foot, discarding multiple fake $100 bills during the chase.

Violent Struggle and Arrest

During the pursuit, Peton physically resisted officers, prompting the use of a taser as a less-lethal option to subdue him. He was taken into custody and arrested for:

  • Passing counterfeit U.S. currency
  • Obstructing and resisting a police officer
  • Assault on a police officer

Vehicle Search Reveals More Counterfeit Bills and Drugs

Authorities located Peton’s vehicle nearby and discovered additional counterfeit currency along with a significant quantity of illegal narcotics. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries and later booked on multiple felony charges. Police noted that Peton has an extensive criminal history, including several prior violent encounters with law enforcement.

Officer Injured During Pursuit

During the chase, one pursuing officer fell and was accidentally struck by an unrelated passing vehicle. The officer sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. Officials say the officer is expected to make a full recovery.
