Student Assaulted On Way to School in South Pasadena

UPDATE 10-10-22 from SPPD:

On October 7, 2022, at about 8:04 am, South Pasadena police officers responded to the 1800 Block of Oak Street for a report of an assault.

Officers arrived and detained the suspect, 21-year-old Juan Esquibel of South Pasadena. Further investigation determined Esquibel was involved in a dispute with a passing motorist when he used his skateboard to strike the vehicle. Esquibel then kicked the skateboard, hitting a minor walking to school with her parent. The child did not sustain any injuries.

Esquibel was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and child abuse. He was booked at Alhambra City Jail pending his arraignment. If anyone has any information on this incident, please contact the South Pasadena Police Department Detective Bureau at (626) 403-7284.

A student on the way to school was reported to have been assaulted and injured this morning while walking on Oak Street near Marengo.
A swift police response ensued following the reported attack and the South Pasadena Fire Department paramedics treated the student at the scene while distraught family members looked on.
