On April 14-16, third-grade classes from Arroyo Vista Elementary School paid a special visit to the South Pasadena Historical Museum. The museum includes a wide range of artifacts illustrating South Pasadena’s history, including Tongva tools, Mission-era items, early farming tools, pieces of the original wooden water main, ironworks artifacts, railway signage, early settler memorabilia, and items connected to the Raymond Hotel, Cawston’s Ostrich Farm, and Route 66.
As part of the state’s academic standards, third-grade students learn why their community was established, identify founding families, and explore how the community has changed over time using maps, photos, oral histories, and other primary sources.
Thoughtfully managed and preserved by the South Pasadena Preservation Foundation (SPPF), the museum is a perfect spot for hands-on learning for our third graders. Thank you to the museum and SPPF for hosting our students.
