Twenty-four SPHS students were finalists in the competition–out of 44 total students. All finalists’ competition photographs were judged blindly. The first, second, and third place winners were chosen by the esteemed competition judges. Other awards were determined by the Ericson Foundation Board members.

Following is a list of the SPHS winners:

  • Taidi Yue – Best in Show 1st Place ($10,000)
  • Dashiell Buettner Heller – Best in Show 2nd Place ($7,000)
  • Saidbh Byrne – Best in Show 3rd Place ($5,000)
  • Christine Xu – Winner of “Things” category – $2,000
  • Kai Gallo – Winner of “Abstract” category – $2,000

The William G. Ericson Foundation, in partnership with the PCC Foundation, sponsored the photographic art competition open to public high schools in the Pasadena City College district area to provide awards to meritorious students.

The photos will be on exhibit April 5 through May 31, 2025, at the South Pasadena Arts Council (SPARC) Gallery at the South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce. The opening reception is April 5, at 3:00 p.m., and the event is open to the public.

We appreciate the hard work of all our students and their photography teacher, Rouzanna Berberian.
