
The South Pasadena Unified School District (SPUSD) Board of Education will hold its regular public meeting on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 1100 El Centro Street. The open session begins at 6:30 p.m. to discuss district financial updates, new curriculum adoptions, and local student achievements.
Meeting Highlights and Recognitions
The meeting will kick off with special presentations highlighting local student leaders. The Board will officially recognize outgoing Student Board Member Maeve DeStefano for her dedicated service to the district.
Attendees will also hear the annual State of the School Address. This update will be presented by the Commissioner General of South Pasadena High School.
Curriculum and Contract Approvals
A major focus of the May 19 agenda is the approval of new educational materials. The Board will vote on a $162,278 adoption of new science textbooks and a $27,661 adoption for the AP World History program.
Several operational and student service contracts are also up for review. Key items on the consent agenda include:

An amendment extending the Hazel Health student telehealth counseling agreement through June 2027.

Approval of local California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) representatives for the 2026-2027 school year.

A $110,749 contract with Ricoh USA to modernize the district print and copier environment.

Travel approval for South Pasadena High School SkillsUSA students to attend a national leadership conference in Atlanta, Georgia.
Financial and Grant Updates
The Board will also discuss an amendment to the AB 185 Discretionary Block Grant. This involves a plan to allocate over $2.8 million to support operational costs and districtwide solar project expenditures.
Additional routine financial items include temporary interfund cash borrowing resolutions. These measures ensure smooth year-end closing procedures for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.

Community members wishing to provide public comment must submit a speaker card to the Secretary to the Superintendent before the meeting begins. Speakers are allotted three minutes each to address the Board.
