SPMS Theatre Students Earn Multiple Drama Awards | SPUSD Snapshot

On November 5, 2022, the Drama Teachers’ Association of Southern California (DTASC) held its annual fall competition. Each year, South Pasadena Middle School (SPMS) Advanced Theatre Arts & Intermediate Drama students participate in the festival. This was the first in-person festival since 2019.

SPMS earned a large number of awards this year leading them to a second place victory in the Sweepstakes Category. Congratulations to the following students who made the finals and won awards during the competition and to their Drama teacher Myra Maracine:

 

1st Place – Female Playwright 

(8th grade students: Ella Chang, Heather Galt, Olivia Sakai). With this 1st place finish, these student winners performed their scene in front of everyone at the competition’s awards ceremony.

 

1st Place – Graphics/Publicity 

(7th grade students: Nate Acton, Oz Englender, Caitlyn Kim, Jane Kistner, Milla Mdnor)

 

1st Place – Set Design 

(8th grade students: Charlie Egan, Dylan Jones, Vasilina Voloshin)

 

2nd Place – Large Group Drama 

(7th grade students: Natalia Avila, Zachary Mockler, James Mortimer-Lamb, Apolline Tsai, Sophia Vyas, Ronda Williams)

 

2nd Place – Oscar Best Picture Nominee 

(7th grade students: Caden Ahn, August Jaeger, Max Mobley, Owen Finney)

 

4th Place – LGBTQ+ playwright 

(8th grade students: Sasha Levie, Raine Murphy, Avery Pistello, Ares White)

 

4th Place – Costume Design 

(8th grade students: Charis Park, Cadence Woo)

 

Honorable Mention – Large Group Comedy 

(8th grade students: Liliana Kazachki, JC Lopez, Rhianon McCree, Pike Schrader, Titus Strongin, Adeline Woo)
