“Our school counselors will be available for middle school students and staff,” Yantz wrote, noting that “if you are aware of a student or staff member in need, please contact the middle school office at (626) 441-5830 or the high school office at (626) 441-5820.”

The superintendent said school counselors will make themselves available to students and staff in the coming weeks.

“Because of our close community, Mr. Brown’s passing has touched many of us,” wrote Yantz. “When an adult close to a child dies, children react in many different ways.”

Yantz said open communication between adults and children at a time of grieving is important, giving reassurance and trying to understand a child’s feelings.

“All of us at South Pasadena USD extend our deepest sympathy to Mr. Brown’s family and friends,” concluded Yantz.

Kindly respect the privacy for the family at this difficult time.
