Diggs, who has worked in the South Pasadena Unified School District for eight years, jumpstarted the orchestra program five years ago. She’s nurtured it along as it is thriving today.

“We’ve been growing ever since and hopefully it will grow even more,” she said before the school year-end concert.

Diggs conducts two big performances each school year, one in the winter and one in the spring, along with some smaller concerts, including a few outside the school.

Monday’s orchestra performance “kind of culminated the school year” explained Diggs, as both the beginning/intermediate and advanced orchestras showcased their talents on stage.

Following music by the beginning/intermediate orchestra, featuring “March of Strings, “Beginning Bach” and “Classical Bash” the appreciative audience heard a series of solo performances, including Kallean Beebe Read on harp, Rio Caine on piano, and Arkin Au, Jasmine Lei, Grace Lin and Holly Lacey, all on violin.

The highlight from the advanced orchestra, a mix of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students, was music from the “Avengers” movie.”

Diggs is encouraging South Pasadenans and friends of the city to stay tuned.

“Look out for more concerts,” she said.
