SPHS Students and Teachers Earn 106 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards | SPUSD Snapshot

This month, South Pasadena High School (SPHS) students received 106 Western Region awards in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Competition. More than 500,000 students in grades 7 through 12 participated nationally in the 2021 competition, in categories ranging from Critical Essay Writing to Poetry to Photography.

SPHS participates in the Western Region-At-Large, which includes California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington State, and Wyoming. South Pasadena regional winners earning Honorable Mention, Silver Key, and Gold Key Awards are listed here along with a link to a Padlet with winners in visual arts categories, and an example of a Gold Key Award winning poem. Regional Scholastic Art and Writing Teacher Awards for 2021 include Rouzanna Berberian, Katie Jaroch, Aimee Levie, Sandra Matson-Fennell, Diane Shires, and Bonnie Taylor.

Gold Key Award winners will go on to National Competition, announced on March 17, 2021. National winners along with their teachers are invited to ceremonies at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
