SPHS Sports Update | Tigers Football Team Sees First Action Since 2019 with Scrimmage
In anticipation to a shortened season, South Pasadena High hosted a scrimmage Friday night against Pasadena Poly. The Tigers are now preparing for their first official game on Friday when they travel to La Cañada High
After a year’s hiatus due to the current pandemic, South Pasadena High’s varsity football team, under head coach Jeff Chi, took to the field Friday night to compete in their first competition since 2019.
In what has turned into an unusual spring sport, the Fall favorite pitted the Tigers against nearby Pasadena Poly in a scrimmage as a precursor for the upcoming shortened season.
It was also an inauguration of sorts as the school unveiled its newly renovated stadium and new visitor stands.

Strict safety protocols were in effect, including masks worn by all players, coaches and officials. Team members also were required to bring their own water bottles as not to share from conventional buckets that were a staple of the past.
Attendance restrictions were also enforced as only a limited number of family members were allowed to attend the scrimmage.
With their first action of the campaign behind them, the Tigers are now gearing up for their first official game of the season next Friday when they travel to La Cañada High.
