For over a century, the South Pasadena High School Parent-Teacher-Student Association (SPHS PTSA) has played a crucial role in fostering student success. Through advocacy, fundraising, and student-centered initiatives, the organization continues to strengthen the educational experience for students, parents, and educators.
A Mission Rooted in Student Success
Since its founding in 1919, SPHS PTSA has remained dedicated to securing vital resources for students and classrooms. Two major annual fundraising campaigns help sustain these efforts:
Fundraising Initiatives: Supporting Students and Classrooms
The PTSA runs two major fundraising campaigns each year: Wish Night and the No Sweat campaign. These programs ensure students and teachers have access to essential classroom materials, technology, and extracurricular support.
Wish Night: Investing Directly in Classrooms
Wish Night ensures that 100% of donations support classroom and activity enhancements, including:
- Teaching software and academic enrichment subscriptions
- Science and math lab supplies
- Art, drama, and theater equipment
- Classroom technology and books
The 2024 goal is $20,000, with $17,127 raised so far (86% of the target).
No Sweat Campaign: Funding Key Programs
This one-time donation initiative supports essential PTSA programs such as:
- Student Club Mini-Grants
- Senior scholarships and awards
- College and career nights
- Parent and student forums
- Teacher and staff appreciation events
Currently, $11,039 has been raised toward the $14,000 goal (79% achieved).
Key Programs Supporting Students and Families
Beyond fundraising, the PTSA leads a variety of programs to enrich the school community:
- Advocacy: Working with the California State PTA to improve education funding and student safety.
- Grad Nite: A safe and celebratory event for graduating seniors.
- Parent Forums: Informational sessions on college prep, student well-being, and school initiatives.
- Reflections Art Contest: A national PTA program encouraging artistic expression.
- Student Club Mini-Grants: Financial support for over 50 student-led organizations.
- Teacher and Staff Appreciation: Events recognizing faculty contributions.
