With hundreds of classmates and family members cheering them on in the stands, female members of the junior and senior class at SPHS battled it out for football supremacy in the annual PowerPuff Classic.
The yearly spring game has become a tradition for bragging rights for athletic prowess. Last year the junior class (current senior class) routed their junior counterparts. It appeared for a time in Friday’s matchup as though the seniors would suffer the same fate at the hands of the lower class as they trailed at halftime 19-14, but ultimately the Seniors prevailed in the end with a final score of 28-19.
The light rain did not deter fans from showing up with many holding signs of support for their favorites on the field. The players sporting bright face colors and wearing commemorative jerseys cheered enthusiastically throughout the game for their teammates. The teams were coached by boys who were members of the SPHS football team.
Power Puff is a fundraiser for the junior and senior classes. It gives the student players the opportunity to coach and the girls enjoy the camaraderie and a chance to display their skills on the field. It is a long-held tradition at South Pasadena High School that is always a popular event beloved by players, coaches, and spectators alike.
