A delightfully quirky puppet show for all ages!

There was a large turnout on Wednesday afternoon for the delightful Puppets & Players old-timey wagon and their showcase of The Wizard of Oz. Families with children of all ages gathered in front of the magical wagon in anticipation and were carried away to the land of Oz by the talents of Laurie Branham and her beautiful, funny and even scary puppets.

The witch was particularly scary which elicited both squeals and laughter from the children in attendance. Others sang along to some of the more familiar songs like “Somewhere over the Rainbow”. The munchkins got lots of laughs and everyone rooted for the intrepid troupe of the Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, Dorothy and Toto as they fought to defeat the Wicked Witch and return Dorothy to Kansas.

South Pasadenan families braved the heat but luckily the library lawn was mostly shaded by our beautiful tree cover and there was even a light breeze. It was an invitation to step away from our screens and engage with live performers and artists on a beautiful day in our neighborhood. Next up for “Wonderful Wednesdays” will be One World Rhythm, a one-of-a-kind, interactive musical experience taking place in the Library Community Room June 28 at 3pm. Check our article to read all about it.
