The South Pasadena Senior Center, 1102 Oxley Street, in South Pasadena invites senior citizens to take advantage of programs and services to enhance their quality of life.

The following will be offered beginning Friday, June 1 through Friday, June 8, 2018.

Friday, June 1, 10 a.m. – “Blood Pressure Screening”– The first Friday of each month a representative from Balanced Living Home Health, will be available from 10-11:30 am to offer screening.  Walk-ins welcome.

Monday, June 4, 10 a.m. – “Avoiding Falls-Building Strength” Falls become somewhat common as one ages.  This can be due to multiple factors: not lifting our legs enough, shuffling feet and/or tripping.  Risk of falling can be reduced by building strength with legs and core areas of the body to help with flexibility.  Join us to learn how to physically improve body strength to avoid falls, presented by Bill Shuttic, Natural Health Practitioner & Fitness Trainer.

Monday, June 4, 3:30 p.m. –Tango Bootcamp (Beginners)- the camp is designed to give students an immersion into the basic technique, understand the connection and figures of Argentine Tango.  No previous experience is needed. The camp will run for 4 weeks for 1.5 hours on Mondays for the month of June. On the last day of the session Argentine snacks will be provided for the students.  Cost per person $25.

Tuesday, June 5, 11a.m. – “Stroke Support Group” Meets Tuesdays, 11am-12:30 pm (Except 2nd Tuesday).  Meet survivors, share courage, change focus to celebrate progress. Led by Reams Freedman, Stroke Association.

Tuesday, June 6, 4 p.m. – Ballroom Dance. The monthly 4 week session will cover Swing dance steps.  Swing is an upbeat energetic dance distinguished by its bounce. Students will learn patterns and character of the dance, cost per month $25.  

Friday, June 8, 10:30 a.m. – “Prevent Senior Hospitalization” Learn five ways to prevent hospitalizations, as well as understanding the signs and risks.  Presented by Maxine Vo with Balanced Living Home Health. Sign up needed.

Lunches are offered Monday through Friday by reservation, the menu for the week includes: Monday, June 4 – Chicken Alfredo with pasta; Tuesday, June 5 – Chicken Cordon Blue; Wednesday, June 6 – Brown Rice Patty with mushroom gravy; Thursday, June 7 – Roast Beef & Cheddar Sandwich, and Friday, June 8 – Cuban Shredded Pork with Plantains. Reservations are needed at least 24 hours in advance and meals are sold for $2.25 per person.
