The California Young Reader Medal (CYRM) program encourages recreational reading of popular literature by the young people of our state. Since its inception in 1974, millions of California children have nominated, read, and voted for the winners of the California Young Reader Medal.

During the week of March 8th – March 13th, the South Pasadena Public Library will present a week of virtual storytimes featuring the CYRM Primary Book nominees.  Each story reading video will be available on the Library’s Facebook page and YouTube channel each day at 10:30 a.m.

Children and teens are invited to cast their ballot and vote for the nominees. The link to voting can be found at Youth may read and vote for books in any and all categories, but they must read all the books nominated in a category to be eligible to vote. The CYRM website at offers a full list of the nominees, as well as more information about the CYRM program.  Copies of all of the current contenders are available to check out from the Library. Voting concludes on Wednesday, March 31st.

The South Pasadena Public Library building is currently closed to the public for the health and safety of our community, although patrons may check out books via Library Takeout, a no-contact check-out/pick-up service. Library Takeout is open on Monday – Thursday 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m; Friday – Saturday 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.; Sunday – Closed.

For patrons who would like a librarian to select their next perfect books, DVDs, Blu-rays, or audiobooks, the Library offers the Materials Matchmaker service. Library users may submit a form, available online or at the Library Takeout door, and then a librarian will select materials based on the patron preferences and prepare them for pick-up.

The Library is located at 1100 Oxley Street in South Pasadena. For more information, check the Library website at or call Children’s Services at (626) 403-7358.
