Assistant Library Director Cathy Billings expects Kanopy to be very popular in South Pasadena, stating “our customers here in South Pasadena are very literate and culturally aware so the types of films that Kanopy offers are perfect for this community. The Library already has an outstanding collection of more than 9,000 DVDs and Blu-rays, but with Kanopy we are able to offer people a service akin to Netflix, one that is easy to use and works with technologies like Apple TV and Roku that people already have at home, or with mobile apps so they can get great cinematic content on the go.”

The Kanopy collection includes indie hits like Hunt For the Wilderpeople and 2 Days in Paris, classic masterpieces like Aguirre, the Wrath of God and Seven Samurai, and award-winning documentaries like the 2017 Oscar®-nominated I Am Not Your Negro and Sundance Film Festival winner Mother of George.

Kanopy is available free to South Pasadena Public Library cardholders and can be accessed from the Library’s website (www.southpasadenaca.gov/kanopy). After creating an account with a valid email address, customers may stream up to 5 films per month, with access to each film for 72 consecutive hours. Viewing platforms include web browsers, apps for iPad and iPhone, Android, and Amazon’s fire Tablet, as well as Apple TV, Roku, and Chromecast. Parental controls can be set to restrict access to films outside of the family.
