Make room at home, support your hometown Library and receive a receipt for a tax-deductible gift all at the same time. Donate gently used books, DVDs and CDs to the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library.
Donated items are sold in the Friends’ Bookstore located on the second floor of the Library and in the “Last Chance” section of bookcases located on the first floor. Everything is 50 cents on these shelves.
Proceeds become part of the Library budget. With these and other supplemental funds from the Friends, staff is able to purchase books, materials and services that the Library otherwise could not afford.
One example is tutor.com, a popular online service that offers access to live tutors. In the last year between April of 2021 and April of 2022, users logged 430 tutoring sessions for a total of 125 hours. The Friends organization pays the $3,000 annual subscription fee and students benefit. “I feel much better about the assignment and I’m grateful for the help,” commented one high school 12th grader about tutor.com.
Donating is Simple
Bring donations to the Library’s circulation desk or reference desk seven days a week during operating hours. There you can obtain a receipt for a tax-deductible gift from the Friends.
Donations can also be brought during open hours to the side (employee) entrance of the Library on Fairview Avenue at the end of a wide driveway. Box or bag all materials. Leave boxed items on a bench located adjacent to the entrance door. Bagged or loose materials can be deposited in the marked bins. Receipts are also available from Library staff at this entrance. For extremely large donations, call ahead to 626-403-7340.
Please do not include magazines, journals, newspapers, textbooks, catalogs, vinyl LPs, VHS tapes or cassettes. Be sure the books are not torn or damaged.
