South Pasadena Library | Restoration Concert on April 23

The Restoration Concerts Committee of the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library will be presenting a Restoration Concert on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. featuring violinist Roger Wilkie and Friends. Tickets will be available at the door for $25. The concert will be held in the beautiful historic Library Community Room at 1115 El Centro St. in South Pasadena. Mask wearing is optional but strongly recommended.
In addition to Roger Wilkie, violinist Anna Landauer, Violist Connie Kupka, Cellist David Speltz and Oboist Leslie Reed will be performing music by F. Schubert, Arnold Bax, and A. Dvorak. A much sought after chamber musician, Mr. Wilkie was a founding member of the Angeles String Quartet, principal 2nd violin with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and concertmaster of the Long Beach Symphony. In great demand as a concertmaster for the Hollywood studio orchestras, Mr. Wilkie has served in that capacity for many of Hollywood’s leading composers. Since 2005, he has had the honor of serving as concertmaster for the motion picture scores of legendary composer John Williams.
Currently the Principal Second Violinist of the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra , Ana Landauer has been with the company since 2001. Winner of the Elizabeth Harper Vaughn International Competition in Tennessee, Ms. Landauer has also appeared at the Tanglewood Music Festival, the Shady Side Music Festival, the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, and served as Concertmistress and Guest Soloist for the National Repertory Orchestra in Colorado.
Violist Connie Kupka has been a member of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra for many years. Ms. Kupka’s lifelong passion for chamber music (and orchestras) inspired her and her future husband, cellist David Speltz, to form their own ensemble, the Arriaga Quartet.
David Speltz has been active for years on many Los Angeles chamber music series in Los Angeles and participated in summer festivals throughout the United States. Mr. Speltz was a member of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra under Sir Neville Marriner and served as the principal cellist of the California Chamber Orchestra under Henri Temianka.

Oboist Leslie Reed joined the LA Opera Orchestra in 1996. In 2009, music director James Conlon appointed her to the principal oboe chair, a position she currently holds.  In addition, Ms. Reed is currently principal oboe of the Los Angeles Master Chorale Sinfonia.  She has appeared as guest principal oboe with the LA Chamber Orchestra, Pasadena Symphony, San Diego Symphony, and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.

The Restoration Concerts Committee, a committee of the non-profit organization, The Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library, has a goal to bring world-class music at an affordable price to the concertgoers in South Pasadena and surrounding communities. As the name suggests, net proceeds from the concerts provide for restorations, enhancements and other benefits to the South Pasadena Library and Community Room. There will be one more concert this season after the April 23 concert. On May 28th, our quartet in residence, The New Hollywood String Quartet will be returning.  For more information about Restoration Concerts, go to https://www.friendsofsopaslibrary.org/restoration-concerts.
