The next Restoration Concert at South Pasadena Library is Sunday, October 22, at 4:00 p.m. Cellist Cecilia Tsan and pianist Steven Vanhauwaert perform the music of Fauré, Brahms, Beethoven, Debussy, Nan Schwartz & John Williams

The Restoration Concert on Sunday, October 22, at 4:00 p.m. will feature cellist Cecilia Tsan and pianist Steven Vanhauwaert. They will be performing the music of Fauré, Brahms, Beethoven, Debussy, Nan Schwartz & John Williams. The concert is presented by the Restoration Concerts Committee of the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library and will be held in the beautiful historic Library Community Room at 1115 El Centro St. in South Pasadena. Tickets will be available at the door for $25. As stated in our previous article, it is advised to arrive 30 minutes ahead of the concert to purchase tickets and find your seat. Seating is open.

Hailed by the Los Angeles Times for his ‘impressive clarity, sense of structure and monster technique’, Steven Vanhauwaert has garnered a wide array of accolades, amongst which the First Prize at the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition. Mr. Vanhauwaert has appeared as a soloist at the National Center of the Performing Arts in Beijing, Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Shanghai Oriental Arts Center, the Concertgebouw in Brugge, and the National Philharmonic Hall in Kiev. He has appeared with orchestras including the Pacific Symphony, the Lviv Philharmonic, the Guayaquil Symphony Orchestra, the Reno Chamber Orchestra, the International Chamber Orchestra of Puerto Rico, the Flemish Symphony and the Kyiv Kamerata. He has recorded on the Hortus, Sonarti, ECM, and Bridge labels; several of his albums have received 5 diapasons in France. He serves as Assistant Professor on the faculty at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Mr. Vanhauwaert is a Steinway Artist. More info at www.stevenpiano.com.

Cécilia Tsan began playing the cello at the age of five with the same teacher as her childhood friend Yo-Yo Ma, who was an inspiration for her. Cécilia has won prizes at the Barcelona International Competition and the Florence International Competition as well as the Debussy Prize at the Paris International Competition held by the Guilde Française des Artistes Solistes. She is also a winner of the Menuhin Foundation Award. Cécilia has given many concerts, not only as a soloist, but also as a chamber musician. In Paris, she has performed at the Palais des Congrès, the Salle Pleyel, the Salle Gaveau, the Théâtre National de l’Opéra, the Centre Georges-Pompidou, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and the Summer Festival, among others. She has toured extensively in France and in Italy, Switzerland, England, Austria, Germany, Yugoslavia, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, US, Japan and Taiwan. “Her warm, beautiful tone filled the hall from start to finish. The Restoration Concerts Committee, a committee of the non-profit organization, The Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library, has a goal to bring world-class music at an affordable price to the concertgoers in South Pasadena and surrounding communities.
