Public School Team Prevails Over Private in Annual Volleyball Match

Two members of South Pasadena High’s volleyball team helped a squad comprised of public school players upend a private school team in volleyball on June 7

In a traditional summer matchup, the public school team prevailed Friday, beating players representing private schools in volleyball.

In the match at South Pasadena High, the public school team won easily in three sets, 25-18, 25-21 and 25-17.

Jason Barrientos and Addison Hsiao were represented on the public school team by South Pasadena High.

Ivy Chew, South Pasadena High’s head coach, guided the public school squad, while the private school team was coached by Tiara Tuitama of La Salle High.

Eric Fu and Garo Barsemian were not present, so the public school team accepted the three players from Alemany.

Among the public high schools represented were Burbank, Arcadia, Burroughs, Crescenta Valley, San Marino and South Pasadena.

Players for the private school team came from Alemany, La Salle, Notre Dame, Village Christian, Damien, St. Francis and Rio Hondo Prep.

Before the match, players from both teams helped teach volleyball to young adults from Ability First, which provides support for people with developmental disabilities.
