That is all.

Wait.. what?

Oh, that’s right. You haven’t heard. That’s why this is a press release.

Derek Wood and Ivy Reynolds (that’s us) have moved to South Pasadena. Yes. That means South Pas is now home to a new design and programming school called Perpetual Education. Is that cool or what?

What is Perpetual Education?

Perpetual Education is a new design school. Our goal is to arm a new generation of designers with a holistic view of the craft. The Web is history’s most powerful communication platform and visual design is our most powerful language. If you want to change the world, you’ll need to know how it works.

Our flagship course – “Design for The Web” – is a 6-month online design and programming mentorship. Maybe you’ve heard about all of these “coding boot camps.” We’re not one of those.

DFTW is the only online program that teaches the entire web design and development process from idea to completion. We teach people to design and build websites professionally.

Who is this course for?

The curriculum is currently built for adults and assumes no prior knowledge of programming. It requires 2-3 hours of focused attention per day, 6 days a week, for 6 months. The hours you work are up to you.

By the end of this course you will have been exposed to all of the techniques, processes, programming languages, and tools of a modern digital design team.

  • Were you planning on learning web development at a Computer Science college? They don’t really teach that there.
  • Were you planning on learning web development at an art college? They don’t really teach that there.
  • Were you planning on learning how to design and build websites at a coding boot camp? It turns out they don’t really teach that there either.
  • Were you planning on going to college, but things seem “messed up” – and so you’re considering waiting a year? Are you trying to help your child find their direction? This might be the right move. You can talk to us about it in person.

Meet the real humans who design and teach the course, by booking a meeting with us online.

If research, content-strategy, design-thinking, typography, visual design, programming, user-experience, user-testing, goal-driven development, and teamwork sound fun to you, book a meeting with us at perpetual.education.

Throughout the 6-month mentorship you will work closely with us to build a portfolio of work that proves your knowledge and skills in an area of your choosing. Will you fall in love with JavaScript and front-end interfaces? Will you find out you really love interactive vector graphics? Maybe you’re a team leader? Our course centers around helping you find out.

Can’t you learn that all online for free?

You CAN learn it all online by yourself – for free. We did it. It took 10 years and hundreds of thousands of dollars in opportunity cost. We do not recommend it.

Cost and commitment

Our program offers an “Income Share Agreement” that allows you to pay a majority of the tuition after course completion. We’ll be happy to explain this in future detail when we meet.
