New Mayor to Take Oath

Mayor Dr. Marina Khubesrian will be sworn in during Wednesday’s South Pasadena City Council meeting

Dr. Marina Khubesrian will officially be sworn in as South Pasadena’s newest mayor during the December 19 City Council meeting at City Hall.

The meeting gets underway at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.

Administering the oath will be Los Angeles County Board of Supervisor Kathryn Barger.

Khubesrian was elected to the council in 2011 and last served as mayor in 2013-14. Over the years, she has been commited to open dialogue and team building with council members, city staff and the community.

According to her bio on the city’s website, Khubesrian, “is always seeking ways to integrate land use, transportation, and municipal policy with achieving greater public safety, health and wellness. She is focused on preserving the city’s history and cultural heritage while updating and maintaining the city’s existing infrastructure and facilities, enhancing quality of life, promoting an active lifestyle, and robust community engagement.”

She is a member of the National Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC) and Women Involved in South Pasadena Political Action (WISPPA).

Kubesrian and her husband, Mark, Dr. Mark Dreskin, have resided in South Pasadena since 1998 and have two children.

She will make comments before a special reception in her honor following Wednesday’s meeting.
