Santa Fe Crafts Native American Gallery — a very special South Pasadena gem for 16 years — is holding its “Piles of Pawn” holiday addition sale this Friday and Saturday, December 5 & 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days at 1123 Mission Street South Pasadena.

The beloved event invites visitors to search through loads of specially brought-in displays of vintage and contemporary Native American jewelry, textiles, pottery, fetishes, baskets, and other historic craft pieces. “You never know what you’ll find,” say owners Barbara Goldeen and John Selmer, who have spent more than four decades sourcing high-quality, authentic Native American and Northwest Coast art for collectors across the world.
This year’s sale carries special meaning. During the January Eaton Fire, the owners’ home suffered serious damage and they were displaced for more than seven months while repairs were underway. Throughout the repairs and renovation’s period, their Mission Street gallery became more important than ever as a cultural and personal anchor.
Santa Fe Crafts has returned to regular gallery hours: Wednesday through Saturday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Originally founded in 1984, Santa Fe Crafts has built a deep reputation for expertise and scholarship in Native American arts. Goldeen and Selmer have curated private collections in the U.S. and Japan; mounted the first museum exhibition devoted to Hopi Third Mesa wicker basketry at the Southwest Museum; contributed to the Circles of Life exhibition and catalog; lectured at major museums nationwide; and, in 2021, published Rare Work, Echoing Tradition: Hopi Embroidered Plaques.
The gallery maintains extensive access to both contemporary and traditional Native American works and offers evaluation and purchasing of individual pieces and full collections. The owners have led guided trips throughout the Southwest and remain known for their personal, knowledgeable service.
